California’s stimulus checks are targeted to help people who might have missed out on the stimulus checks last year, or still really need assistance. Does this mean YOU will get a check this Spring? Here are the five ways you might qualify for the $600 stimulus check, and when you can expect to get this money.
The first way you might qualify is if you and your family receive CalWORKs. CalWORKs is California’s cash assistance program that helps low income families. If you receive CalWORKs, your $600 stimulus check will automatically be added to your account. Expect to receive this payment mid-April.
You’ll also qualify for the $600 if you receive Supplemental Security Income, State Supplementary Payments
If you are part of the Cash Assistance for Program for Immigrants (CAPI) you are eligible for the $600 stimulus check.
If you qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit in 2020, you are eligible for the $600. Typically you qualify for this credit if you earn less than $30,000 / year. Expect to receive the payment after you file your 2020 taxes
Some individuals file their taxes with an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) because they don't have a Social Security Number. If you’re a resident of California, have an ITIN, and income less than $75,000, you will likely qualify for the $600 stimulus check. If you have an ITIN AND qualify for the EITC, you may actually qualify for $1,200.
If you file taxes with an ITIN AND qualify for the EITC, you will receive an additional $600 after filing your 2020 taxes.
If you receive CalWORKs, you will get the payment deposited into your account some time around mid-April. As of February 28th, the state is still deciding when payments will be issued to people who receive SSI, SSP, and CAPI. If you're eligible via the Earned Income Tax Credit or because you file taxes with an ITIN, you will receive payment after you file your 2020 taxes.
